She is a momma, doula, drummer, teacher, artist, mother, former midwife. Her ethos is to re-wild our wombs and activate our voices, to deepen the understanding of our options and their impact within the birth journey, as there are many pathways for women to return to our power in birth. Her Sacred Birth Path course cultivates a community of birth guardians who understand and honor the spirit of birth, as well as can serve women and families on their journeys. She graduated from National College of Midwifery, apprenticed with eight midwives, and became a nationally certified professional midwife, as well as a licensed midwife in the state of Oregon. She has taught birth classes in the U.S., Indonesia, Brazil, and Peru, and has attended well over 450 births. Hope’s path has included “drumming as a tool of healing,” and eventually my path unfolded as full-time touring drummer for Nahko and Medicine for the People- and now incorporated rhythms and drumming into her birth teachings. In her Sacred Birth Path school, she provides education and courses for doulas, birthing families, nurses, and birth keepers. Whapio- The Matrona
The Sacred Witness & reclaiming our Sovereignty as Birth Keepers
(LIVESTREAM)
For over four decades, Whapio Diane Bartlett has been a pioneering force in midwifery and holistic birthkeeping. Her life’s work has centered on raising the consciousness of birth, reclaiming it as a sacred rite of passage, and transforming how families, caregivers, and communities engage with the childbearing journey.
Whapio often speaks about birth as the essential role of consciousness in caregiving. She believes that awareness, presence, and relational trust are the missing elements in modern maternal care—and that their return could radically transform birth as we know it. “The way we give birth,” she says, “is a mirror of our emotional and spiritual maturity on this planet. If we prioritize consciousness in birth, we will transform not only the experience of birth but the very fabric of how we live and relate to one another.” -

As a result, a domino effect begins, that percolates the frequency of love to all parts of our body, emotions, past trauma and all aspects of life, inside and out. The results are healing, self empowerment, reconnection to our true self, heartfulness and much more.
There's a lot involved in the coming of a new soul to this world. Women that are in the process of becoming a mom sometimes are more in tune with the coming child than others. This connection pre-birth allows them to prepare accordingly for the arrival.

Carolina Paulon
Grief Circle: tending to the heart and body around womb losses, miscarriages, abortions, stillbirths, and more
Carolina Paulon has been a birth worker for 10+ years. She began her path as a doula on the island of Kaua‘i in 2015 and became a mother to her son, Noah, the following year. She is currently a student midwife attending home births as primary under supervision. Her work is deeply rooted in honoring birth as a sacred rite of passage, with a strong belief in the mother as the highest authority in the birth space. She is passionate about ceremony, women’s circles, and creating spaces where women feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout their childbearing journey.
In 2023, Carolina’s path was marked by profound transformation. After experiencing an early miscarriage, she found herself carrying twins — and navigating the heartbreak of losing her son Neo in utero while continuing to carry both life and death in her womb. She went on to birth both her sons, Neo and Liam, in a deeply sacred and complex moment of love and loss. Liam was born prematurely and spent two months in the NICU — a chapter that called Carolina into fierce advocacy, deep surrender, and embodied wisdom as a NICU mother.
These deeply personal experiences opened the door to her ongoing study and devotion to the terrain of perinatal grief, stillbirth, and miscarriage. Through intentional grief work, Carolina has come to a place of peace within her own story and continues to walk this path in service to others. She brings heart, presence, and lived experience to every circle she tends and to each family she supports — through conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, or loss.

Lynn Velasquez
Ask Your Local Midwife: Q&A for practical support
LM- CPM, Kauai Midwife
I come from a lineage of home birth. My grandmother often shared her birth story, as it was told to her by her own mother. She was named Luna after the midwife’s daughter—a testament to the bond forged in those moments of care and community. My grandmother Luna had nine babies at home, each one a chapter in the story of our family.
Your Story Matters- Stories have the power to transform. They shape the paths we choose—or don’t choose. They remind us of what is possible and connect us to those who came before. Birth stories carry a unique kind of strength. They remind us of the courage, resilience, and truth that define the birthing experience.Through my work as a midwife, I have seen how sharing these stories—whether from parent to child, midwife to family, or across generations—can empower people to embrace their own strengths to listen to their soul and not be guided by others fears.
